Nash County Voluntary Water Conservation Stage II 8-1-2026

Sharing news that a coyote was spotted within the past couple of weeks between two backyards on Windchase Pointe Court. It's a reminder that between all the fields that surround our many wooded lots, we share our local habitat with lots of native critters - from snakes, squirrels and raccoons to foxes and coyotes.

We urge all residents with small pets to be vigilant and keep your animals protected inside. I spoke with a North Carolina Wildlife Enforcement Officer this morning who emphasized that any small pet left outside unsupervised is considered fair game to a hungry coyote.

A coyote doesn't know a beloved family pet from a wild critter and he's not acting out of malice - he is just following his natural instincts to survive and eat. So an unsupervised small animal is simply dinner to him when he is just trying to get by. We humans need to be the ones to stay vigilant and keep our pets safely inside or on leashes at night.

Wildlife Control Options

State wildlife officers do not remove wildlife from residential neighborhoods. However, homeowners have options if they experience property damage from the wildlife/critters:
